There is no area of the face that is more likely to show the signs of aging than the eyes. Due to a variety of factors including heredity, environment and age, the upper and lower eyelids are prone to the development of crepey skin, discoloration, and puffiness. Eyelid rejuvenation has undergone a number of evolutionary changes over the past decade, with the incorporation of nonsurgical, minimally invasive, and "minimal touch" techniques.

An eyelid lift is aesthetic plastic surgery of the eyelids that can address all facets of aging and the tired look that often develops around the eyes.

A traditional blepharoplasty is an eyelid lift that might include any or all of the following: removal of excess upper eyelid skin, removal of excess eyelid fat, and removal of excess lower eyelid skin. To these basic cornerstones of Blepharoplasty, a variety of improvements, additions and modifications have been added, and are currently available for eyelid rejuvenation. The eyelid rejuvenation techniques that may be used alone or in combination include:
The eyes may be the facial features that best identify an individual, and maintaining the natural shape and "personality" of the eyes is of paramount importance. “I Finally Look As Good As I Feel”

Blepharoplasty must be precisely personalized for every nuance of skin, fat, support, shape, function and individual desire.
Just as each individual's physical attributes and desires are different, so too is every surgeon unique, and the plastic surgeon you choose for eyelid rejuvenation makes a difference. What differentiates the care Dr. Kolker and his team provide is comprehensive:
“The eyes are perhaps the most uniquely identifying facial feature, and maintaining the natural, beautiful identity of the eyes is essential. The best blepharoplasty technique must be uniquely tailored to the individual. You should never look different after eyelid lift, rather, you should just look more youthful, refreshed, and rejuvenated.”

Eyelid surgery may indeed be recommended, however there are a variety of situations in which Dr. Kolker will recommend a nonsurgical eyelid rejuvenation approach. When plastic surgery is required, the most minimal approach is selected to minimize downtime and to achieve your goals. When appropriate, plastic surgery of the eyelids is combined with other modalities, such as laser, fat grafting and fillers, to promote the most natural results.
Is there a minimally invasive, nonsurgical eyelid lift? Injectable fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, can "refill" the tear trough and areas of volume loss, Botox Cosmetic can "relax" and soften the fine lines and wrinkles of the crow's feet region, and laser (ablative with CO2 laser, or nonablative with Fraxel laser) can "resurface" the eyelid region. While Blepharoplasty may be required for more prominent issues including excess skin and more pronounced fat bulge, for select individuals with more modest concerns, these nonsurgical maneuvers may be an outstanding solution.
An upper lid blepharoplasty may be performed under local anesthesia only, although light sedation may be elected.
Skin-pinch blepharoplasty, or the removal of a small amount of skin from the lower lid, can also be performed under local anesthesia, however many select sedation for this procedure as well. For lower lid blepharoplasty with more involved muscle, septum, and fat maneuvers (repositioning or removal), sedation is required. When necessary, anesthesia is administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The procedure duration may range from approximately 45 minutes to two hours, but may be longer or shorter based on the specific techniques planned, anatomic requirements, and goals. The options will vary depending on your unique needs, but may include any individual or combination of the following:
