“My "mommy makeover" was the one thing I did for "me" after having children and it’s the greatest gift I gave myself. Even my son has seen "Dr. Adam" for minor scrapes and cuts. He now insists that Dr. Adam is HIS doctor making him a true family favorite.”

Having a baby is one of the greatest wonders and joys in life. As a mom, the love, support, and nurturing you give to your children often goes beyond the emotional devotion and care; there are a wide array of physical effects that pregnancy and breastfeeding will have on your body.
Whether you have had one pregnancy or many, a twin pregnancy, small or large birth-weight babies, considerable weight gain during, or loss after, your pregnancy, or a long course of breast feeding, all of these factors play a significant role in the effects on your body.
The skin's elasticity, particularly of the breasts and abdomen, can be "tested" by pregnancy, and the skin will respond differently in every woman. Often, the tummy will demonstrate both laxity of the muscles (called a diastasis) as well as excess skin. The breasts may lose volume compared to your pre-pregnancy size, and they may droop or sag to varying degrees.
Plastic surgery after pregnancy, also known by the more charming but apt "mommy makeover", describes that wide variety of treatments available to correct post-pregnancy changes. There is no standard formula for a mommy makeover; it is always tailored to your individual needs. If you are a mother looking to rejuvenate your pre-baby body with one of the best Mommy Makeovers in NYC, Dr. Kolker is more than happy to meet with you to discuss your options.
You have kids at home, and you need to get back to them rapidly. Most moms do not have the luxury of a long recovery period after their New York mommy makeover, so a treatment plan is always suggested that gets you back to family life, and just as importantly, your life, the most quickly.
Cosmetic surgery procedures after pregnancy or any cosmetic treatments geared toward the correction of, and the reversal of, post-pregnancy alterations in the body and skin may be combined, or performed as isolated procedures.
In addition to breast and tummy changes, many moms notice additional changes, such as dark spots of the face (called melasma), small red marks of the face (telangiectasias), spider veins and varicose veins of the legs, unwanted hair, and other changes in facial skin such as increasing fine lines and wrinkles. For the many physical changes in texture, color, and contour ranging from very mild to more significant, there are a variety of treatments available, ranging from minimally invasive non-surgical procedures and treatments, to plastic surgery procedures for post-pregnancy changes. Dr. Kolker offers a custom-tailored mommy makeover in New York.
The most common procedures in a mommy makeover are those that address the tummy and the breasts, but there are many additional procedures available to regain your pre-pregnancy beauty and appearance.
As part of your Mommy Makeover, a tummy tuck, or an abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat, and re-tightens the abdominal muscles to your pre-pregnancy tone.
The changes in both the skin and muscles of the abdomen after pregnancy can vary dramatically. Large babies, twins or multiples, several pregnancies, substantial weight gain, and hereditary factors can all play a role in the changes of abdominal skin and muscle. More superficially, the skin may be slightly lax, or it may even hang. Beneath the skin, there may be minimal or substantial excess fat. The abdominal wall muscles may be firm, they may bulge slightly, or they may be severely stretched. A cesarean section scar may be unsightly, or there may be a bulge of skin, fat or muscle above the cesarean scar. In most situations, no amount of core strengthening exercise can completely restore the stretched muscles. The post-pregnancy tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is tailored very carefully to your specific needs after pregnancy. To restore your pre-pregnancy tone and contour, abdominoplasty procedures following pregnancy range from a mini or a modified tummy tuck, to a more classical abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.
With each abdominoplasty technique, excess fat is removed, and the abdominal muscles are tightened and repaired, and the excess skin is trimmed away. If there is a cesarean section scar or bulge, it is most often removed with the tummy tuck procedure. Dr. Kolker will use liposuction in conjunction with most tummy tuck procedures to produce the most natural and beautifully sculpted results. Dr. Kolker's unique approach to your tummy tuck procedure is not simply the removal of excess skin and fat; it is geared to achieving an aesthetically balanced and cosmetically beautiful abdominal contour by combining the abdominoplasty techniques that suit you best. A breast augmentation and / or a breast lift (mastopexy) will restore volume to your breasts with breast implants, and will lift your breasts based upon your specific needs. Breast and tummy reshaping procedures can often be performed together, but should you desire (or should Dr. Kolker feel that you would benefit from) their performance as separate procedures, it is indeed possible to have a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty only, or a breast augmentation or a breast augmentation with breast lift only.
If your breasts have lost volume or perkiness, their size and shape can be restored with breast implants or a breast lift. Breast augmentation with breast implants following pregnancy can be as conservative or as liberal as you desire; breast implant sizes are most often chosen based on your specific dimensions and body type and geared towards restoring a natural, youthful proportion for your body. Most often, the breast enlargement procedure restores your pre-pregnancy breast size and shape, with perhaps a modest increase if you desire. If you have always dreamed of having larger breasts, and the loss of volume after pregnancy has inspired you to achieve that larger size, the appropriate breast implants will be selected for your breast augmentation according to your physique and your wishes. If your breasts have not only lost volume, but have undergone a change in position as well, a breast lift or mastopexy procedure can be performed (known as an augmentation mastopexy).
If you are comfortable with your post pregnancy breast size and would like to restore your breast shape or perkiness, a breast lift (mastopexy) without breast implants can be performed as part of your New York Mommy Makeover. Dr. Kolker favors a minimal incision or short scar approach to breast lift procedures, particularly when combined with breast enlargement using breast implants. Dr. Kolker will help you to determine which breast augmentation or breast lift procedure suits you best. For facial concerns, lines and wrinkles can be effectively addressed with little or no down time with injectables or fillers, such as Botox® Cosmetic, Juvederm, or Restylane. Color changes in the skin can be treated as a "lunchtime procedure" with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or laser treatments. Small and moderate sized spider veins and varicose veins of the legs can be treated with laser treatments or with sclerotherapy. Facial skin texture can be refined, refreshed, and beautified with medical esthetic facials, peels, or microdermabrasion. The possible combinations are numerous, and depend solely upon your desires. After a thorough discussion of your goals, Dr. Kolker will suggest a post-pregnancy treatment plan that is tailored specifically for you, striving to deliver the best Mommy Makeover NYC has to offer you.
Being a mother is as exhausting as it is gratifying, and most moms develop a few more lines and wrinkles after having children. Lines and folds of the face can be safely, and effectively treated by either relaxing the muscle effects (such as the "11's" between the eyes, or forehead lines) with Botox® Cosmetic, or by refilling areas that have lost volume (such as the nasolabial folds between the cheek and lip, or the lip itself) with Restylane or Juvederm. These are little-to-no-downtime procedures, so you can get back to your family immediately after your treatment. For moms that are still nursing Dr. Kolker advises waiting until your child is weaned before any injectable treatments. For more detailed information about Restylane, Juvederm, or Botox in New York, follow the link to Dr. Kolker's Botox, Restylane and Juvederm pages.
The hormonal changes of pregnancy can leave their marks in many ways. Many women develop blotchy, brownish patches on the forehead, cheeks and lips. These discolorations of the skin, known as melasma or chloasma, are the result of the circulating estrogen and progesterone, and may persist long after you have given birth. Intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser therapy can be used to minimize or erase these discolorations with little or no down time.
Unwanted hair in the bikini area, legs, underarms, stomach, lip, chin, and face may also become more abundant after pregnancy. Intense pulsed light and laser hair removal treatments can reduce or eliminate the need to wax or shave.
During pregnancy, your body experiences an increase in circulation to provide extra blood flow to your baby, and as your baby grows, the legs and feet can swell, and some of the deep and superficial veins of the legs can become dilated and prominent. Small and moderate sized veins, including spider veins and other red, blue, or purple vascular marks of the legs, can be treated with laser or sclerotherapy (small injections directly into the veins) to minimize or erase these unsightly discolorations. Laser treatment of spider veins and sclerotherapy are little-to-no downtime procedures with minimal or no discomfort.
The hormonal changes during pregnancy can increase both the pigment in your skin as well as oil production, and often produce changes in your complexion. After pregnancy, the many demands of caring for your children can take their toll on your skin as well. For busy moms, an at-home skin care regimen adds little time to your daily routine, and will serve as a foundation upon which beautiful and more youthful skin is built. The addition of medical aesthetic treatments can greatly improve the results of a skin care routine. Treatments that cleanse, eliminate impurities, remove the tired outer layers of skin, hydrate, and restore balance include facials, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, and peels. Microdermabrasion and superficial chemical peels are the most effective "lunchtime" treatments in the exfoliation process, removing the most superficial, dead skin barrier cells and promoting increased stimulation of collagen production, the renewal and growth of healthy skin cells, and faster absorption of nutrient skin care products. Performed along with a facial by our Licensed Medical Aesthetician, these treatments are soothing and rejuvenating, and leave you looking and feeling glowing and refreshed immediately. Facials and peels can also be combined with intense pulsed light (IPL) Photo-Facials that will treat broken capillaries, red spots, and other discolorations of the skin.
How soon can I get back to my family? Most moms do not have the luxury of a long recovery period after receiving a Mommy Makeover, and a treatment plan is always suggested that gets you back to family life, and, just as importantly, your life, the most quickly.
Most women are able to return to normal activities including work, working out, and caring for kids approximately one week after breast augmentation or breast lift, and between ten days and two weeks after breast and/or tummy tuck surgery. How soon after delivery can I have plastic surgery? Dr. Kolker recommends at least six months for your body to recover before any plastic surgery is considered. How soon after I finish breast feeding can I have breast plastic surgery? Breast augmentation or breast lift should be performed no sooner than three months following cessation of breast feeding.
